How To Surf The Net Safely
#MakeItSafePH
In this day and age, people depend so much on the internet for information, general knowledge, high-tech apps that can be downloaded and in enhancing relationships through social media. All these make us spend so much time in front of our mobile phones, gadgets and computers—at work or in our home. Professionals, students, children, especially the millenials never seem to stop learning to find ways to use modern technology to their advantage.
While technology has a lot of advantages, there are also negative effects that we have to be wary about. It has come to an alarming degree that we really have to protect ourselves and our loved ones from being exposed or victimized by all these negative effects of technology.
How to surf the net safely. Sa panahon ngayon, one of the wisest things we can teach our children and family members is how to surf the net safely so as to avoid getting into trouble like being involved or victimized by extortion, harassment, video scandals and bashing. Nakakalungkot ito, di ba? When we are supposed to enjoy and experience the good that modern technology can bring, may ilan namang iresponsableng mga tao na tila hindi marunong gamitin ang magandang dulot nito sa atin. Bagkus, ginagamit nila ito sa mga hindi magagandang bagay tulad halimbawa ng pamba-bash sa ibang tao at pagpu-post ng mga unwanted videos just to embarrass other people.
So what better way to protect ourselves than to be aware of internet safety.
Here are some points we should remember when surfing the net:
- Don’t give out any personal information— when using the internet, ‘wag natin ibigay ang lahat ng impormasyon na posibleng makapagbigay ng access sa ating account ang mga hackers o masasamang loob. Personal information such as our home and office address, phone numbers, bank account numbers and other legalities about your identity should be kept private.
- Create one of a kind passwords— secure your accounts with passwords that you think would be difficult for others to copy and imitate. Puwedeng maglagay ng numbers or icons like (%*!@) along with the password. Do NOT share your passwords with anyone.
- Select what you share – a gentle reminder for all of us especially for those who frequent social media sites. This way, we can keep ourselves protected from being stalked or robbed.
- If you have a child, supervise his/ her internet usage and ask about the people they meet online—no matter how busy you are as a parent.
- Security and Privacy Settings check— when signing in a social media site (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+ Plus) siguraduhing na-check mabuti ang privacy settings kung gusto mo na limited lamang ang makakakita ng mga posts mo – like between you and your friends lang. However, if you want to post anything publicly, siguradihin ding maging handa sa posibleng maging opinyon ng iba. Check the delete, turn off commenting and edit button if you want to change anything in your post. The security settings vary in every smart phone. You may choose from creating your own password, face and fingerprint coding and simcard security. From trying out the different security settings of your phones, you will know what would be easier for you to manage when turning it on.
The above are just basic security reminders na dapat nating malaman para maiwasan natin na mabiktima ng mga untoward incidents sa internet at maituturo din natin ito sa iba. Knowledge of these safety tips can make our internet experience educational, enjoyable and fun. #MakeItSafePH
