Chabby Says Hello to GOLDIE: The Mama’s Girl
When Your Pet Feels Insecure…What to Do?
I always feel glad and light-hearted every time I read pet stories on Instagram and Pinterest. I’m amazed at how pet owners’ lives have been touched and blessed by their pets through nurturing them. I’m sure many of you are also animal lovers– be it dogs, cats, rabbits, fishes or birds and have them as pets or even treat them as part of your family.
You may have read about Chabby in my previous blog. Yup, she is my beautiful cat who’s about a year and a half old. Like most cats, she is independent and playful but sometimes aloof. She grew up not having any sibling to play around with… until another kitten came into our lives.
Her name is Goldie, a furry ball of yellow gold when she was born. I didn’t expect to grow fond of Goldie as she was really a loner and would frequently hide behind our grotto when she was about a month old. But later, my Mama would always call her and feed her until she became comfortable. Too comfortable that every time and anywhere she sees my mom she would lie down and demand to be touched and scratched. At five months now, she is really playful, affectionate and clingy.
Raising Chabby and Goldie
I never thought I’d be able to take care of cats and just love them as much as I’m so into loving Chabby and Goldie now. Oh, how can you resist those eyes when they look at you?
Cat Rivalry?
When Goldie came, I noticed Chabby’s attitude changed a bit. She always liked it when we would pet her or scratch her ears and neck so whenever she sees Mama give attention and play with Goldie, she would just look and then walk away. Seeing Chabby this way really made me sad and worried. I thought she might run away thinking she wasn’t loved anymore.
As days went on, Chabby started playing with Goldie. They would play rough and tease each other. It’s fun watching them climb up the tree, run after the other or just fight over a spot on the ledge outside our room window. Well, Chabby learned to adjust to Goldie’s constant presence though she still would appear and act superior whenever the little one is around her.
So what to do when your pet feels insecure?
Now, Mama and I always make sure that whenever we show affection to Goldie and Chabby is around we give her as much or even more time to assure her that she is still our number one. For now, Goldie doesn’t seem to mind as she’s always busy running around and wrestling with leaves or whatever she can get hold of. Later however, we will just need to balance the time and attention we would give them. They are really just like kids.

Ay abaw! They have rivalry, too? Kasadya. We too have pets — a turtle and a couple of hedgehogs. But they are not emotionally attached to us. But we do take care of them–feed them, bathe them. etc. I think dogs and cats are different because they kind of have “personalities” .:D
keep up the cat blog! 😀
Yes! They have personalities and these two are opposites. Daw may kids man na gina saway haha! 😊
