Veggie Bites Café
A Yummy Twist in Your Diet
Veggie Bites Café is a newly opened restaurant in Bacolod that serves vegetarian cuisine and is owned and managed by the people behind the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center (BAMC). This is already the third outlet that they have opened in the city. The other two are Veggie Bites located at the fast food area of Robinson’s Place Bacolod and Vedge Hub in 6th St. Lacson.
What sets Veggie Bites Café apart from other restaurants is that their menu mainly caters to vegans and vegetarians. Adventists are known to stick to their religious beliefs and practices which include not eating pork, shellfish and other prohibited animals. They advocate a healthy lifestyle and overall wellness of body and mind. Personally, I have long been introduced to the different Veggie Bites dishes as my mom would always bring take out vegetarian food from Veggie Bites Robinson’s which are usually made from vegetables, veggie meat or tofu.
During our visit to Veggie Bites Cafe, we listened to Dr. Mechelle Palma, BAMC Facilitator and Lifestyle Specialist as she talked about the advantages of living a healthy lifestyle and eating plant based food. She mentioned that the more we eat meat, the more we get to see health complications and risks as we get older. According to Dr. Mechelle, dietary vegans are those who do not eat animal products like meat, eggs and dairy products or anything derived from animals. However there are those who CROSSOVER or just want to try vegan and vegetarian diet but would go back to their old routine.
There are also those who make the big shift and seriously live the vegetarian lifestyle.
Food Choices
Veggie Bites Café’s food choices are delicious that I myself couldn’t resist even if I’m not into the vegetarian-vegan diet. Thanks to Chef Raul Javelosa (owner of Kix Place), who prepared all the yummy vegan delights.
Among the dishes that Chef Raul and his staff prepared were garden pizza, cheese pizza, mushroom burger, match sticks, falafel and garden salad.
For those with the sweet tooth, Veggie Bites has created a line of desserts including healthy and vitamin enriched breads that are really tummy filling. Camote (sweet potato) bread and wheat cinnamon bread are among those present in their bread basket. For cake lovers, they have Vegan Double Dark Chocolate Cake, Vegan Cheesecake and cupcakes.
