GIMIK AND TGIS STARS DIEGO CASTRO & BOJO MOLINA: HERE THEY ARE TODAY

Spread the love

Raise your hand if you are a 90’s kid!

I’m sure you guys remember the youth oriented shows GIMIK and TGIS (Thank God It’s Sabado) that filled our Saturday afternoons with fun, kilig, made us feel what it’s like to be in a barkada and what it’s like to love and be loved back.

Ganoon ang peg ng mga bagets nu’ng 90’s.

Both shows went on air for four years.

Today, visible pa rin ang ilang artista ng GIMIK (Judy Ann Santos, Mylene Dizon, Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin) at TGIS (Bobby Andrews, Angelu de Leon, Michael Flores) on television but here are two of GIMIK and TG’s stars who may not have been that active in acting anymore but both are successful and are making a mark in their chosen path.

Diego’s career path started when he was launched via Star Circle Batch 2 of then Talent Center (the talent management arm of ABS-CBN later known as Star Magic)) and eventually joined Gimik’s original cast in 1996.

After his stint in Gimik Diego decided to transfer to GMA-7. Paglipat niya sa Siyete, naging bahagi siya ng TGIS at iba pang mga GMA-7 shows gaya ng Kasalanan Bang Ibigin Ka?, The Borrowed Wife, Strawberry Lane at ang longest running daytime drama show, Maynila.

Aside from being an actor, Diego also pursued his culinary training and used to own a restaurant named Sitio Diego in 2002. He also worked for a large pizza chain in the country. “In 2010, I had to quit coz Dad died and I resumed TV work. I then became part of GMA-7’s Kasalanan Bang Ibigin Ka?” he said via direct messaging. Diego is the son of deceased parents, the late veteran broadcaster Angelo Castro, Jr. and actress and broadcast journalist June Keithly.

2014 was a turning point in Diego’s career as he finally ventured into newscasting. Actually, sa simula pa lang, ito na ang inakala ng marami na kanyang tatahaking career path bilang anak siya ng parehong beterano at hinahangaang mga broadcast journalists. Well, it’s never too late to take a turn and make a decision. Today he is part of UNTV, a major TV broadcast network in the country, where he is working as a newscaster in it’s Why News program and is also one of the hosts of Good Morning Kuya (GMK).

When asked about the difference between being an actor and a newscaster, he replied: “Being an actor entails you to memorize lines and be expressive. Being a newscaster entails you to read from the prompter and be emotionless. And since matagal akong naging aktor, nahirapan ako at first.” But watching him deliver the news now, masasabing nasa dugo talaga ni Diego ang husay ng kanyang mga magulang.  No wonder he got nominated for his work at the PMPC Star Awards For TV Best Morning Show Host.

What makes life more meaningful for Diego is that finally he met the love of his life, Angela Lagunzad, his co-host in GMK . Keep it up!

Who can forget the Brian-Melanie loveteam in Gimik? Yes, Bojo was also launched via Star Magic and starred in Gimik with Mylene Dizon as his on-screen girlfriend. Alongside Gimik, Bojo also appeared in several TV guestings and Star Cinema ( a film company of ABS-CBN) movies. He moved to Viva Artist Agency in 2000 and did some projects for its film outfit.

In 2001 he decided to leave the country and settle abroad.  He is happily married to Johansen Kwe and they have 2 kids.

But fans of Bojo need not feel sad because he hasn’t totally turned his back from the limelight.

In fact, Bojo has a radio program, The Bro Show, in Guam where he is now based.

Bojo was one of the promising actors of his generation.

If he’ll opt to give showbiz another try someday, I’m sure laging may bukas na oportunidad para sa kanya dahil hindi lang siya magaling umarte, marunong din siyang makisama.

Ayan na guys, your 90’s papables! Let’s root for their continued success!
