The Dee Loo
Chan-Chan Torres
The Dee Loo is a catchy name for a restaurant. It’s a play with words for “Daddy Loo”, the term of endearment of the owner’s grandchildren for their Lolo or grandfather. The Dee Loo is one among the string of restaurants and bars of The Boxes which is located at the Marketplace in the New Government Center area, Bacolod City. This family owned restaurant serves Filipino food and home cooked favorites you will love. Owners Edward and Teresita Mondres are very hands on– from paper works, kitchen management and customer service. It’s also nice to see that their children take part in serving the guests.
The Dee Loo’s Ambiance and design
I’m a fan of wooden interiors and furniture – it gives me a relaxed feeling. So The Dee Loo’s ambiance is appealing to me. If you’re the type who loves taking groufies or selfie photos, then their second level would be a nice venue to hang out and capture the beautiful sunset or go stargazing on warm nights.
The Dee Loo specialties
The Mondres family owns Umbao’s chicken inasal in Manokan Country so Chicken Inasal is one of The Dee Loo’s specialties. They also serve family favorites such as special sinigang, baby back ribs, 3- cheese hamburger, nachos, quesadillas, sinuglaw, pork sate babe, beef tapa, fried chicken (6pcs), lechon kawali, garlic butter shrimp and The Dee Loo fried beef steak which is also a house specialty.
Teresita said they immediately liked the place when they were scouting for a location for The Dee Loo. “When we first saw the place, we liked it. It’s safe here for everyone to visit.”
Food Finds
In our recent Bacolod Food Crawl experience, I tasted and savored a little of almost everything that the restos prepared. I personally liked The Dee Loo’s special sinigang and when I asked why is it special? “It’s not the usual sinigang. Our special sinigang has 3 ingredients- pork, shrimp and fish (tanginue) in sour-spicy broth.” says Ms. Teresita.
I also munched on the quesadillas, chicken inasal, sinuglaw, nachos, fried beef steak. Yuuum! Also in the menu are the beefy cheeseburger, pork sisig (with egg/optional), grilled liempo, chicken sate, calamares, chicken fingers, fish & chips and a lot more.
