The Upper East Mall : Soon To Rock Bacolod
So are you ready for the big change in Bacolod’s shopping and lifestyle genre? Hold your breath Bacolonons and Negrenses—Megaworld—the country’s largest developer of integrated urban townships, has announced the construction of a three-level lifestyle mall inside its 34-hectare township in Bacolod City. This was disclosed over lunch which was attended by some media and blogger friends at L’ Fisher Hotel a few days ago.
The event was also graced by Mr. Kevin L. Tan, Megaworld’s chief strategy officer. “What we are building in the Upper East is not just an ordinary mall. We are curating an architectural masterpiece that depicts the cosmopolitan vibe of our Bacolod township. This is just the first mall that we are building because there is still more room for future expansion.” says Mr. Tan.
An East Side Landmark
The Upper East Mall will cover a gross floor area of 24,200 square meters. It is set to become the newest place to go to, a landmark that will showcase a blend of neo-classical and art-deco architecture that’s quite similar to New York City’s Upper East Side city scape.
Who Doesn’t Love Malling?
I love going to malls and I’m sure when The Upper East will come to its completion, it will be a hit especially on weekends. When it comes to malls, the design, architecture, facilities are big factors why people keep coming back or why they would opt not to anymore.
Star of the Street
The Upper East will capture mall goers and shoppers with its mall design that will be highlighted by a 48-meter high iconic clock tower. Just like any star it will illuminate even at night and is expected to become a major landmark along the six-lane main avenue of the township that stretches from Lopez Jaena Street to Circumferential Road.
Are you in for greens?
I like the idea of malls having trees with benches around.
It refreshes the eyes and eases tiredness from walking around. The Upper East will house several rows of restaurants facing a garden of century old trees that will be surrounded by Koi ponds. There will be four state of the art cinemas as well as an open air Food Hall with an indoor garden.
Wow, I can’t wait to walk along this strip as I gaze at people holding hands under these huge trees.
Under Construction and Development
The Upper East will be managed and operated by Megaworld Lifestyle Malls. It will be highlighted by sustainable features such as having its own solar panel roofing and energy efficiency features like:
- perceived air conditioning cooler design
- escalators with crawling features
- rainwater harvesting system (rainwater is recycled for watering plants)
- gray water recycling system (water that is discharged from the sewage treatment plant is collected and used for secondary flushing of the mall’s toilets and urinals.
Just across the mall are the two residential condos of One Regis and Two Regis.
The Upper East has a whopping P1.2 Billion budget which is just a part of the 28Billion capital spending that Megaworld corporation earlier announced. Expected completion date is by 2021.
