Share Your Blessings with the Kids at  Bacolod Girls Home

Rotary Club of Bacolod-South

Bacolod Girls Home may just be a landmark or an institution to many but for the homeless, abandoned, forsaken infants and young girls it is a safe place to live in rather than be out in the streets begging for alms.

This Holiday Season, we can make our Christmas more meaningful by sharing whatever we can to these young girls who have less in life.  Just like what the members of the Rotary Club of Bacolod-South (led by their President, Ms. Elena Gatanela) did a few months ago when they visited Bacolod Girls’ Home and gave out goodies and supplies to the residents. They brought food, slippers, clothes, vitamins, and things for hair care and grooming.

A talk on hair care and good grooming was also given by Dir. Maricar Lo so that the girls will be aware of how they should take care of themselves. As we all know, it is really important to instill proper grooming in a child starting from a young age so she will carry the learning until adulthood.

TOUCH LIVES and MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Like the Rotarians (South), I also had the chance to visit Bacolod Girls Home three years ago. I brought boxes of clothes which I solicited from relatives abroad.  As a giver, I felt joy in my heart when I saw them welcoming me and I felt their excitement with the gifts that they will be receiving no matter how big or small it may be. I also observed that less fortunate kids are more appreciative. Meaning, you don’t have to give extravagant gifts to see their smiles and hear them say thank you.

GIVE FREELY ANYTIME

While giving gifts like toys, clothes or gadgets may just be one of our traditional practices especially during the Christmas season, we can always visit institutions like Bacolod Girls Home, the home for the aged or orphanages and share whatever blessings we have- basic needs like food and water or ideas, learnings and our time.

The fact that we spend time with these children is enough to make them feel they are valued. To be able to touch young lives and make a difference in the world they are in are things we as grown-ups should uphold.

Cliché as it may sound, but giving will always feel better than just receiving – not only in this season but throughout the year.
