Advancement in Iloilo in a significant stride towards sustainable energy, MORE Power, in collaboration with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the Iloilo City Government, has entered into a tripartite agreement. The primary objective of this agreement is to advance the utilization of renewable energy resources, ultimately enhancing affordability and options for electricity consumers within Iloilo. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the national government’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fostering the use of renewable energy.
Establishing a One-Stop Shop for Renewable Energy, the agreement bestows MORE Power with the authority to establish a one-stop shop, serving as a focal point for offering renewable energy technologies such as Net Metering and Distributed Energy Resources (DER).
This strategic move empowers consumers with a diversified range of choices to effectively reduce their energy consumption.
Acknowledging the significance of this partnership, MORE Power’s President and CEO, Roel Z. Castro, expressed enthusiasm, citing the collaboration’s active engagement with the city government over the past three years. ERC’s Role in Streamlining Processes and Raising Awareness The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) plays a pivotal role in this endeavor by providing technical and regulatory expertise.
This support will streamline the complex processes involving documentation submission, installation, payment, and permitting for Net Metering and DER. Moreover, the ERC is committed to conducting an information drive to heighten awareness about renewable energy among electricity consumers in Iloilo. Monalisa C. Dimalanta, ERC’s Chairperson and CEO, emphasized the significance of Iloilo’s role as the second pilot Local Government Unit for the Net-Metering and broader renewable energy program, aspiring to inspire similar collaborations nationwide. Catalyzing Green Practices and Local Economic Growth Mayor Jerry Trenas of Iloilo City underscored the local impact of this partnership, emphasizing green practices that resonate with national targets.
Through initiatives such as installing solar panels at vital facilities like the national high school, city hall, dialysis centers, and eye care facilities, Iloilo City is leading by example. Net Metering and DER hold immense potential not only in reducing energy consumption for households and small businesses but also in stimulating the local economy. This partnership aims to foster collaboration, advance renewable energy deployment, and disseminate best practices and knowledge to empower consumers in their pursuit of sustainable energy resources.
