Look What I Discovered in NEW ORLEANS

New Orleans, the largest city of the state of Louisiana, one of the Southern states of the United States of America, is a popular destination for tourists who are into culture, heritage, arts and music.  During my younger days in school I’ve already heard and read about their rich culture and colorful festivals. I’d see jersey shirts with New Orleans printed on it and even tried eating Louisiana fried chicken and biscuits which I liked. Little did I know that fate would one day bring me to see New Orleans, when I had the chance to visit the United States in November last year.  Oh, wow, so this is New Orleans… The real thing!

Hello New Orleans!

NEW in New Orleans

We had to pass by the State of Mississippi before we can reach our destination

I was with my family in Alabama when my Aunt told me we were all going to New Orleans.  Oh I couldn’t contain my excitement! New Orleans is approximately a 2 hour and a half drive from where we were.  We had to pass by another state, Mississippi, before we ended up at our destination.

Louisiana’s culture is largely influenced by their colonizers mainly the French, then the Spanish and native Americans.  The colonists brought in African people as slaves which further enriched their mixed heritage. If you are into parades, festivals, mardi gras and even voodoo or witchcraft (Oh yes, they have that!), you shouldn’t miss dropping by this fun, enchanting, historical state and experience an all in one adventure.

What to do in NO

There’s never a dull moment when visiting New Orleans. There’s so much to do and a lot of interesting places to see in this fascinating city. Listed below are the places we visited, food I was introduced to and other stuff I discovered along the way that are part of Louisiana’s rich and colorful culture.

  • Café Du Monde

This restaurant is so popular that we had to wait to be seated. They serve fresh Beignets, a French doughnut that’s rectangular in shape, covered with powered sugar that’s crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside.

So, how’s that ha? Best paired with coffee

The famous….
  • The Boeing Company

I felt I was a kid again when I entered this museum full of gigantic airplanes in different colors, sizes. Awesome!

The amazing Boeing!

  • Houmas House and Plantation  It is in this 38 hectare property where the mansion is built. I was actually taking pictures of its facade but i kept on pausing just to stare in awe  of all the beauty that surrounded  its splendid grandeur. The architecture, wood carvings,  antique furniture— wow! Of course, tourists would  love to hear  stories behind this classy  and grand mansion.

What’s the secret behind Houmas mansion?

  • Bourbon St.

Located at the heart of New Orleans, this district is most popular for the nightlife, clubs and quaint restaurants. Party peeps love to stay out, walk around and just unwind in the area.

  • Tito Ed’s Seafood

New Orleans is known for Louisiana cuisine and seafood that abound in the area. At Tito Ed’s, my family and I enjoyed freshly opened giant oysters and other tempting Cajun dishes. Uhhh yuuum!

Can you say no to these?

If you are a visiting tourist like me, don’t miss the souvenir shops out there. If you are the curious type and into witch craft and voodoo– come see some mystical voodoo items too.  After we explored all these amazing places and had our tummies filled with delectable Louisiana cooking, we left New Orleans with fun and happy memories that will be kept in our hearts forever.

Hey, you’re here!
